Do you really want him? - Jeropotato
He has talent or we think he is, though have to admit, wonder how much his # were proposed up from playing with Gaudreau. If price is reasonable, yes, if wants way more than $1 mil per, I think they pass even if have the chance. |

Look at his year to year numbers. Last season was quite a jump. It's not a huge risk, mind you, but cap space is at a premium and he'll want the Max ELC. |

I'm gonna say that after watching Gaudreau skate this morning, it may be quite a bit. The kid was able to just take over the game I watched and it looked effortless for him. Granted, this isn't the pro's but the Selects organization is quite a powerhouse and he and his Hollydell boys just looked like they could outpace them (his brother played as well as Buddy Robinson of Ottowa and a few other pros/D1s). I don't follow college hockey much but there was always talk about him in my area since all the kids idolize him so he has a big influence at the local rinks and I can honestly see why he won the HB |

College is no way comparable to the NHL. Look how many college, junior and European players fail once they hit the pros. This guy will be a flop, guaranteed. |

If the reason he didn,t sign with the halks was he couldn,t get playing time, fine. However if he wants to pick his team, his role and make more than league minimum whithout paying his dues like everyone else, I would pass . |

It's always nice to have young talent coming up, but this kid wants to play now, and he doesn't crack your top 9. There's a nice flow goin on there already. I can't see him giving anyone the boot. |

If the Rangers had the 15th overall pick in this year's draft and didn't pull another Hugh Jessiman would that player crack the starting lineup? I would say it's doubtful. If this kid would only have gone 15-25th I can't see him replacing the 2011 15th overall pick JT Miller and I don't see him coming on board to swap in and out with Glass.
I'm going out on a limb and saying "nothing to see here people. Move along. Go back to your lives." |

No thanks, if he was ready we would have already inked the guy. Calgary he will go. They could find room for him. Be interesting to see how his season goes in "The Show"....and not playing with the college stud as a 22 year old against mostly 18 and 19 year olds. I am thinking he will be quite "ordinary" at best. But, we will see I guess.

Guy is looking for guaranteed playing time and probably a bonus structure off of the playing time that gets him close to $2.5m off an ELC. Do the Rangers really want to go there? |

I love the kids size and he's improved substantially year over year. If he can continue this development path then absolutely. |

I agree and there is a line the Rangers won't cross, we've seen their stance on RFA's, I'm not worried about how far they'll go |

Jan first off the Rangers sign all the other players because there is no guarantee that Hayes will sign with the Rangers. Second you have to try and sign the guy because our prospect pipeline is thin and like any draft pick, which by the way we havent had a first rounder since since last 11-12 and our next one is 15-16, is a crap shoot. We give up nothing to sign him. If we do sign him I wouldnt mind like seeing him just turn out to be ok. As far as who get released or traded there are a few guys to choose from. I doubt that will be a problem. |

not quite sure I like hearing that an unproven, pre-frosh is requesting a top 6 role on an NHL team. If you produce, you'll get the playing time. Is he gonna request enough brown m&ms to fill a brandy glass or he wont step foot on the ice? |

I haven't seen it said anywhere from either Hayes or his agent themselves that he's demanding top-6 ice time. That seems more like an assumption by the media. Obviously it makes sense that he would want some playing time right away because why not? But I don't think he's DEMANDING it. If he gets an offer from us and from Calgary and they're the same money, it'll depend on what opportunities he thinks each team will present him. With Calgary, he's more likely to get playing time in the NHL quickly. With us, he could look at how we have Nash, Kreider, Hagelin, MSL, Stempniak, and Glass signed with Miller, Fast, and Lombardi competiting for the other winger spots with guys like Buchnevich, Duclair, Borque, Haggerty, etc. all close to competiting for roster spots in the near future and he might not see a real opportunity to play in the NHL here. |

He had 14 points in 31 games his freshman year, 28 points in 44 games his sophomore year, 25 points in 27 games his junior year, and 67 points in 39 games his senior year. That is year over year improvement and what our Director of Scouting Gordie Clark says he loves most about prospects...the consistent improvement. Basically, if he's improving every year then there's reason to believe he will continue to improve once he turns pro. |

I suppose...but there is still quite a bump for his senior year. Read French's blog, he has a good breakdown. |

He definitely benefitted from playing with Gaudreau but you can't deny his improvement year over year before that. It's been a pretty linear progression from him which is nice to see. Again, his size and skating ability makes me really interested in him. And to put up the points he did, regardless of who was feeding him the puck, he had to be able to still finish and he did. Would love this kid in the system and his "attitude" or "entitlement" doesn't deter me at all. |

Its interesting if he has the enthusiasm and confidence that he can play and hang with top 6-9 on NHL teams. That type of cockiness could actually make him play better than he is. He won't have the shyness and reluctance to try to make things happen. |
